"Earth's crammed with heaven, And every common bush afire with God, But only he who sees takes off his shoes, The rest sit 'round it and pluck blackberries."

If you're in Utah...

... my cousin Laura has started a cake business.......

Her cakes are very yummy.  My favorite would have to be the Mint Chocolate Cake.  I was going to lift some lovely pictures of her blog, but I am not smart enough for that.  But here's a reminder of previous cakes she's done for me:

M enjoyed this for her 2nd birthday.  She'd been throwing up all day, but she definitely did not throw up this cake.

This was GQ's cake.  And yes, it is slightly girly, but we were pretending it was E's birthday because she was traumatized about the whole moving and not knowing people to invite to her party thing.

Doesn't he look like he's enjoying his cake???  Yep, that's a Mint Chocolate Cake right there.  (When you're the mom, and the kiddo is only one YOU get to pick the flavors.)

Anyway, if you need a cake in the future, check it out:

Shiner

Remember this?  I was so sure that it was going to turn all kinds of nasty colors and that I would be able to take some great pictures to document the whole process.  Alas, no such luck.  The bump went down and that was that.

This however:

is much more colorful in person.  I'm sure if I knew how to use my camera you could see the blues here too.

According to M, this is what happened:  "E hit me with a ball."
E likes to add that:  "It was an accident!!!!!! And anyway, I hit my head tooooo, and it hurt toooooo."

I am not excessively convinced.  Just as I was not convinced by her explanation of GQ's goose egg:  "I was just laying on the ground looking at the sky (they were in the house at the time) when he tripped over my leg and ran into the wall."

After I took M's picture, GQ insisted I take his as well.  Look at that sweaty, summer head.

It Happened!

The tooth is out!  And she did it all by herself.  She had asked me to pull it out earlier in the day, but I came up with the lame excuse of "I just don't think it's ready right now, ask your Dad."  Honestly, I couldn't handle pulling my own teeth out.

When it happened, I thought for sure there were be masses of tears and blood.  (I have a very vivid memory... or, apparently, imagination.)  But E was pretty low key about it, and handed me back the paper towell with a look  that said, "Mom, come on, I am fine."  Me?  I am grossed out by the picture and that gooey mass in there.  I remember feeling similar gooey masses with my own tongue, and get queasy at the thought.

E is now busy thinking up all the things the tooth fairy might bring her.  I don't know if the fairy can live up to all the glamour she's imagining.

She also spends lot of time in the bathroom looking at it and has declared:  "I have such a cute smile now."

Painting today... the after-affects

Mom:  E, what is this glitter spot on the floor?
E:  That is where I dropped my barbie purse.
Mom:  When stuff like that happens you need to clean it up.  It's okay that it happened, but you can't leave it there or it will ruin the carpet.
E:  Oh, I did take care of it.  I made sure to put more glitter glue on my barbie purse so it still looks nice.

Glad the real problem's solved.

(And also glad I was in a "good-mother" mood and didn't yell "you may never use the sparkly glue again!!!!" or I might not have got to hear that funny response.  Not that I ever do that.... you know yell... at least not a lot.... um... or maybe.... whatever....hmmmm....)

****

Meanwhile, on the other side of the table:

M was making this:

and ended up with this:

I guess I shouldn't be so surprised.  Napping during paint-time is not the smartest thing ever.

E "putting a marshmellow in her mouth"

Someday I can blackmail her with these pictures.... he he he.....

Or maybe she is already blackmailing me?  Based on this photo, I think sometimes having Miss. Jamie be your mother is a tad bit irritating.

Performance

This week I was excited to get our performance pictures.  A big "thank you" to the wonderful Robilyn Lake and Angie Wilson for taking the photos for us.  The top few are the class pictures, below are candids from rehearsal.  (There's a lot there of me pointing with a funny look on my face.)

BUMBLEBEES

This was my biggest class, and my favorite costume.  They were pretty hilarious on stage too.

BLUEBIRDS

FLOWERS

I loved this picture of them, because it really shows the personality of the girls.

RAINBOWS

Two of my dancers for this class couldn't join us, but they still did a great job.

REHEARSAL PHOTOS

For those of you who have done this with me before... I decided to do pictures during rehearsal.  It was good because I didn't have enough people at the Performance to run pictures backstage while we danced, but it was also really hard to practice those parts of the show we all did together.

This is Wynne, who did a Personal Progress Project and danced with us.

It went better than I thought, and we had a great time.
