"Earth's crammed with heaven, And every common bush afire with God, But only he who sees takes off his shoes, The rest sit 'round it and pluck blackberries."

Stories

Meg is learning to read. It is hard for her to tell the difference between lowercase "u's" and lowercase "a's" (Not how we type them, how we write them.) So often she reads "aaah" for "uuuh". The other day she was reading her sucker wrapper in the car. You know: Dum Dums. Which means she was saying, over and over:

"Dam dams, dam dams, dam dams!"

Spencer loves his vegetables.  And he hates his fruits.  Seriously.  As in, to feed him his bananas I have to put green beans on the front of his spoon.  Totally wierd.

Two Children

How did this brown-haired baby morph into this blond-haired cutie???

Soccer

Remember this:

This is Grant pretending to be nice when really he was just screaming because I would not let him out of his stroller during Ellie's soccer - because he just ran on the field.  (Also, notice how Spencer already has more hair than Grant at 1, and he's on Round 2 of the hair-growing business.)

Or how about last year, when I had to keep pulling him off the field during Meg's game.

Well, finally it was Grant's turn!!!!

He totally picked the ball up with his hands, just like Ellie.  I always forget to give the soccer rules speech to my sport delayed children.  But he was very excited that it was finally his turn to be on the field.  The girls were a little irritated I didn't sign them up this year.  Oh the tragedy of belonging to a family of siblings instead of a family of one!

Ward Campout

Last year it rained on our Ward Campout and we told the kids we would go to the dinner and then go home.  Not only did they never forgive us, they also made us set up a tent at home and then they were crazy and we had to take Grant upstairs before he knocked the thing over.
So this year, when it rained on our Ward Campout, I packed the car anyway.  I mostly forgot to get out the camera, but in the morning Baby Spencer was very cute:

We had brought his crib, but he got cold so I put him in my sleeping bag with me.  After that he was so good.  This is the same sleeping bag I have had since I was a kid and my brother Michael gave me the sleeping bag for Christmas.  I was totally rude at the time and thought it was a lame present, but I have probably used it longer than any other present I received as a child.

Grant had a glow stick which he opted to use as a "fight."  Big surprise there.

The kids had so much fun, and we are definitely glad we went.

1.  Meg feeding Spencer for me one morning.
2.  Woody and Jessie.
3.  A mermaid... we used a pillowcase for the tail.
4.  Grant, when he learned that the Batman book needed to go back to the library.  There were tears running off his chin.
5.  Ellie missing three teeth beyond the two that have been gone forever.
6.  Grant sleeping on his bed.  He is not ready to be raised off the ground.
7.  When she was only missing two teeth.
8.  A yummy lunch.
9.  Playing outside.  Later I found a leaf pushed on the roof of his mouth.
10.  Precious sleeping child.
11.  Taken by a friend... Meg and her flashlight at a recent campout.  This picture is Meg in a nutshell.  Mischievious and happy.

Ellie's 7th Birthday

On Ellie's birthday this year, I only took pictures of Spencer.

In my defense, my camera battery was on empty.  And also, Spencer did upend his entire container of carrots on himself, the highchair, and the floor - which necessitated a picture - or three.

He did this while I handed out food on the table.  We went to Jimmy Jack's - a new BBQ joint Ellie has decided she loves.

This is funny because she never finishes her sandwich when we eat there, and it is not that big.  Also, Grant and Meg didn't eat their food. (Let's be reminded that Spencer's food didn't make it down his throat either.)  But Justin and I enjoyed the meal.

Ellie did not want a cake this year - only cookies.  We had to make two batches because she wanted peanut butter chocolate chip - and I didn't think they'd enjoy that at the school.  On the day of her birthday she tripped on her shoelace while walking to school and severely damaged her forehead and knee.  It was traumatic.  This will be forever documented in photos taken tomorrow for picture day - although obviously I didn't take any pictures the actual day.

I cannot believe Ellie is 7, and tell her all the time to stop growing.

She rolls her eyes at me, which only proves that she is growing anyway.

We love her!

GQ and a Public Service Announcement

Says GQ - after E made him a little paper dagger complete with a scabbard and belt:  "I am going to get rid of everything I don't like!!!"

***

Also, I think I am making my blog private.  It is mostly just the way I keep track of our memories now and E is getting old enough that I've decided to stop plastering her picture publicly.  (I'm more than willing to do it privately.)  So, I'll "mediate" comments and if you want to be invited then send me your e-mail.

I will just add you Mom, Libbi, and Paula.
