"Earth's crammed with heaven, And every common bush afire with God, But only he who sees takes off his shoes, The rest sit 'round it and pluck blackberries."

Evidence to the Contrary...

... or E's 2nd Love

In true Andersen fashion, E received her first birthday present last Thursday - a full ten days before the actual event. Grandma never was one to let the opportunity of giving an early present go by...

This particular gift came in response to E's enthusiasm (translate "obsession") with wearing princess dresses. Whenever people notice this particular joy of E's, they are quick to send more princess gowns her way. And while she greatly enjoys them... twirling, and preening, and smoothing her skirts... she always comes back to her FAVORITE dress. It just cannot be helped. It is her first love, and she is a faithful young thing.

And so, I always warn those who offer their dresses that this particular princess gown is not likely to be removed from the top notch of E's dressing agenda. After all, it's never happened before.

I offered this same warning to Grandma, but she was not to be swayed... and off the pair went - to Burlington of all places - to scout out possible options.

E saw the dress when she first walked down the aisle. From the moment it caught her eye she would be won by no other. This was the dress for her. And, as fate would have it, the dress even sported a "Cinderella" tag. It had to be a sign. The two were made for each other.

And so, this week, for the first time ever, M experienced something she'd never had opportunity to do before. In a fit of sisterly love, E pulled out the old pink dress and slung it her way. After all, she had a new number to wear... and she knew this one did the job quite well.

In her defense, M did drag the dress around the house for a bit before leaving it on the stairs. She never was much for dress-ups. She leaves that to her older sister.

You've never been the receiver of a sloppy-second dress-up have you? I certainly have never slung when your way when it was not suitable to my wearing ...posh the idea!
