"Earth's crammed with heaven, And every common bush afire with God, But only he who sees takes off his shoes, The rest sit 'round it and pluck blackberries."

E-isms

On F.H.E. treats:

E: We're going to have those square ice cream treats.
Mom: But we don't have any of those anymore. (We bought them last week and I've enjoyed them nightly on my own.)
E: (Looking at me like I'm insane.) You ate them all!!!!

While going to bed:

Silence
E: M! M! M!
M: bkjlsh
E: We haven't talked for awhile.... do you still remember me?

How To Get M to Come Quickly & Notes On Justin

Yesterday afternoon our family went on a walk. We decided not to take the stroller because the girls had a late nap and we wanted them to get tired. Well, let's just say that M was very interested in exploring other people's lawns, toys, flowers, trees, etc. Let's just say we were sure we would never actually get home. Finally Justin and I found the perfect way to keep her from falling too far behind. All we had to do was hold hands. M is pretty certain she should always be in the middle of any group hug/love/holding hands experience. As soon as we took hands with each other and E, M would come running. I mean, how dare we leave her out????

On another amusing note.... earlier in the afternoon our entire house was taking a big power nap. I knew the home teachers were coming so when a knock came at the door, I ran to the bathroom really quickly. I thought Justin understood what was going on, but apparently he was more asleep than I thought. He didn't even know who was at the door. He says he's pretty sure he gave them a funny look when he opened the door - as in, "who the heck are you? and what are you doing at my house?" - and the rest of the visit's conversation went very slowly. Justin just could not keep up. It was so funny to listen to him try to formulate a coherant sentence. Sometimes he would just stop mid-thought and think that he made sense. I just tried not too laugh. If only we could have got that on video!

A Word to the Wise

Perhaps you think that after bathtime you can trim your oldest daughter's nails while your youngest daughter runs naked about the house.

Perhaps you think that after your youngest daughter releases #1 in the middle of the bathroom floor that you are safe to finish cutting said nails since now the deed is done.

Perhaps you think that after dressing afore-mentioned youngest daughter you are safe.

Perhaps that is just a pile of pellets from a wandering rabbit that snuck into your hallway while all this was going on.

Or perhaps not.

Perhaps next time you should dress your youngest daughter first.

Just an idea.

Because apparently this position is very dangerous when M is not wearing her diaper.

A Tragedy at the Grocery Store

I accidentally bought reduced fat chips ahoy cookies.

Who actually eats those?

Why do they sell them?

Why are they in my house?

This is horrible.

A New Invention

I have a new invention. It goes like this.

First, you clean the house. Your very best cleaning. Your deep-downdest cleaning (yes, that is a word).

Second, you take a picture of each room.

Third, you buy a pair of glasses for each room and paste the picture on the inside of the lenses.

Voila!!!!

Now it does not matter what happens AFTER you clean the house. You can enjoy it in all its cleanly splendour.... without cleaning it again!!

I am a genius.

It's certain.

Beauty School Drop-out

I went to get my hair cut on Friday.

I hate going to get my hair cut.

First of all, everyone and their dog knows how chatty I am. How much I enjoy small talk. How much I desire to talk about my entire life to complete strangers. Oh what fun to be confined to a swivel chair while someone I've never met before quizzes me on, "what I'm doing right now in my life." Um, the laundry? Do we really need to discuss that?

But, beyond that.... comes the horrible question.

"How do you want your hair cut?"

I know the basics. Short. Mostly the same all the way around so it can grow out while I put off getting my hair cut again for six months. Layers. Texture. Okay, that's all I know.

Why do they insist on asking me how long I want my layers to be? Or whether I want it thinned out. Or if I want my bangs chunky or swooped. Or if that looks like what I want. Excuse me, did I go to cosmetology schoool? Do I even know what short versus long layers are? Do I know what will change if you thin out my hair?

No!

No, I don't know these things!

So please, stop asking. I really have no idea. Really. I don't.
