Beauty School Drop-out

I went to get my hair cut on Friday.

I hate going to get my hair cut.

First of all, everyone and their dog knows how chatty I am. How much I enjoy small talk. How much I desire to talk about my entire life to complete strangers. Oh what fun to be confined to a swivel chair while someone I've never met before quizzes me on, "what I'm doing right now in my life." Um, the laundry? Do we really need to discuss that?

But, beyond that.... comes the horrible question.

"How do you want your hair cut?"

I know the basics. Short. Mostly the same all the way around so it can grow out while I put off getting my hair cut again for six months. Layers. Texture. Okay, that's all I know.

Why do they insist on asking me how long I want my layers to be? Or whether I want it thinned out. Or if I want my bangs chunky or swooped. Or if that looks like what I want. Excuse me, did I go to cosmetology schoool? Do I even know what short versus long layers are? Do I know what will change if you thin out my hair?

No!

No, I don't know these things!

So please, stop asking. I really have no idea. Really. I don't.

I totally agree! Jeramy's sister does mine usually and I give her free reign to cut, chop, slice or do whatever she wants. So I HATE when I go somewhere else and they start asking QUESTIONS! I don't know what she does, just cut my hair please!

I too agree! Aren't they supposed to know what is best! Tell me what you think I should do or just follow the previous haircut please! Also, I'm glad I'm not the only one who puts off haircuts, I never make time for my own!

So shouldn't we get to see a picture of said new haircut?? I go to the beauty school down the street, $7 - they are not too fast but you usually get lots of help and they are pretty excited to have freedom with the hair!

Ha ha! I project the "please just cut my hair and let me sit here in silence" thought every time I get my hair cut. It hasn't worked yet, but I'm still working on it.

Exactly how I feel. Last time I got mine cut it had been a year and a half.

Why is it impolite to tell the hairdresser lady you would rather sit in silence, and that they are the professional so they should know what hair looks good on you. Blast.

I feel the same way, though I really like the place that I went to a few weeks ago, and the stylist was awesome. It's called Sassy's Salon, and it's in Lindon. It's right of of state street, just past 2000 N. The girl who cut my hair is named Ivy. I just went in, asked her what she would suggest, and gave her free reign. And, the best part was, she talked about herself the whole time, which I appreciated (not a fan of awkward small talk myself!).
